I have a question regarding the stretchy bone tip you posted. I tried this myself, I position constrained the end bone to the control points and the root bones all have look at constraints at the controllers. But i noticed i sometimes get a bone pop out of the control points and then all i have to do is move the control point and the bone snaps back into place. Does that occur for you, and if so would animating it be painstaking on my skin morphs with popping bones. Just so you know I repeated your steps after I spline rigged my arm, then using the control points the spline ik rig give you.
